For all faithful followers in cyberland, welcome to our new seasonal editions format. We are leading off the winter edition with two images of Bannerman’s Castle which all of us aficionados were very sad to see partially collapse last month. It has been a treasured Hudson River sight, for what seems like forever, for rail riders commuting or heading into “The City”.

Frank Bannerman VI bought the island in 1900 and built the castle as well as warehouses. The state acquired the island in the mid-60s as part of the Hudson Highlands State Park. A 1969 fire destroyed the buildings interior.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reported the collapse of 30% - 40% of the front wall and about half of its east wall. The damage was reported by a passing motorist and officials of Metro-North Railroad who could see the damage from the east shore of the Hudson. A Bannerman spokesperson said, “Deterioration of the structure’s masonry, mortar and foundations due to neglect and environmental conditions, including freeze, thaw, and high winds caused the collapse.” For an additional summer image of the island’s place in the Hudson Highland, please visit the Hudson River Region Gallery on my website.

As part of the Chinese New Year celebration, my exhibit, Journey: China/Thailand will be on exhibit at the Highland Falls Library for the months of February and March. The library is located at 298 Main Street, Highland Falls, NY, and can be reached at 845-446-3113.

I am proud to announce two images won places in the Mid-Hudson Photography Club’s Winter Competition. “Timelines” took an Honorable Mention, and “Walkway Celebration” took Third Place. Both images were from the Walkway Gallery which has been removed, but I will leave both in this edition’s New Images Gallery so that you can have a peek. Please, enjoy the rest, also. They are of nature’s and man’s art that I have truly appreciated feasting my eyes on over the past months.

Please, feel free to forward the Newsletter to those who would enjoy my photography. I hope your winter includes fabulous, snowy frolics!
